If you’re thinking about studying special education, UW-Eau Claire has some facts you should know about. For instance, Blugolds outperform the state averages on the reading, Praxis II and edTPA exams, which are the benchmark exams for licensure in the state. In fact, for the first try at the new Special Education edTPA, of the top 10 scores, 6 students were Blugolds. We hate to try to boil the program down to test scores, but it’s a big part of completion and our students are setting the bar very high, making this one of the top programs in the region.
This comprehensive major (no minor required!) will certify you to teach special education in grades 1-12. The degree plan has been set up to be the most efficient progression possible, rich with multiple opportunities to observe and participate in area classrooms throughout your program, all designed to prepare you for student teaching and career success. Blugolds enter this program as students and leave as highly-trained and experienced professionals.
For more details about course specifics, see the current course catalog.
See admission requirements for declaring this major, done after freshman year. Once admitted, you will be assigned a faculty advisor who will assist you with the details of your degree plan.
