Geography and Anthropology Certificates
Gain extra expertise
A certificate or credential is a great addition to any degree and the knowledge you gain can set you apart when applying for jobs. The anthropology certificate serves to enrich and deepen student learning in other disciplines, providing anthropological perspectives to a variety of subjects. There are also four options of geospatial certificates to choose from at UW-Eau Claire that align with the Geospatial Competency Model developed by the U.S. Department of Labor. Depending on your future aspirations, certificates range from broad to specific interests.
Anthropology Certificate
12 credits
The anthropology certificate offers a coherent disciplinary approach to subjects that are often shared with other disciplines and fields of study such as geography, history and biology. Courses examine culture as the human means of environmental adaptation and explore the range of variation in human behavior.
Geospatial certificates
There are four separate options for the geospatial certificate program: one general 12 credit option and three 18 credit options with different areas of emphasis. Successful completion of a geospatial ethics assessment is required — as are the following four core courses for each certificate:
- GEOG 335 - Geographic Information Systems I (3 cr)
- GEOG 336 - Geospatial Field Methods (pre. 335; 3 cr)
- GEOG 337 - Geographic Information Systems II (pre. 335; 3 cr)
- GEOG 338 - Remote Sensing of the Environment (3 cr)
Geospatial certificate
12 credits
This certificate provides you with foundational knowledge and applications in geospatial technologies.
Geospatial Certificate with Geographic Information Systems Emphasis
