Art + Design Minor Programs

Add a little art to your life

A minor in art or art history introduces students to the creative process and visual thinking required in the art world, and can provide the perfect pairing with many majors, such as journalism, English, history, and cultural studies like Latin American Studies and American Indian Studies. Students in either of our minors will delve deeply into the theory, ethics, and practices of traditional and contemporary art.

Multimedia Communication: An interdisciplinary minor

The ability to develop ideas and present them through a variety of media is indispensable in our communication-rich society. The interdisciplinary minor in Multimedia Communication prepares students to analyze audiences, frame arguments, express themselves clearly in the written and spoken word, understand basic principles of visual design, gather and edit audio and video, and use web-based software to publish their work.

Although Communication + Journalism is the official home for this 24-credit minor, it is of interest to art and design students. Courses come from the domains of visual communication (art, communication and journalism), written communication (communication and journalism, English) and computer programming (computer science). The minor is suitable for students who would benefit from the ability to communicate information from their disciplines to a variety of audiences.
