The continued use of face coverings is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS), local health departments and healthcare professionals as an easy way to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling into the air and onto other people when the person wearing the face covering coughs, sneezes, talks, or raises their voice. Many medical professionals and public health experts believe that wearing face coverings is the simplest way to slow and prevent the spread of COVID-19 virus without requiring people stay in their homes.
Students seeking an exemption to the UWEC Campus Mask Guidelines requirement may submit a request to the exemption review committee. The University reserves the right to request additional clarification or documentation. The committee will validate the need for approved accommodations and contact the student via their University email.
Those whose requests are denied will be required to follow the face covering guidelines. Failure to follow the face covering guidelines may result in disciplinary actions.
Students seeking a medical exemption for testing must submit the documentation from the student’s medical care provider and the documented the reason why an individual cannot medically meet testing requirements. Medical exemption requests for testing will be submitted to the exemption review committee. If the documentation is verified, Student Health Services will notify the student via their University email of the approval.
Students seeking a religious exemption for testing must state in writing that testing conflicts with the student's sincerely held religious belief. It is recommended that documentation or a letter from a religious or spiritual leader is included. The request will be submitted to the exemption review committee and if the request is granted, the Dean of Students office will notify the student via their University email. Please review UWS Chapter 22.
