Advising Model

Endless resources and opportunities

Throughout your time as a Blugold you will have access to countless resources to ensure your academic success at UW-Eau Claire. Our Advising, Retention and Career Center (ARCC) is one of those resources. The center provides students with a trifecta of assistance. You’ll be assigned an academic advisor and faculty advisor for your major. Your advisors will assist you with your four-year graduation plan. You will also have access to the resources provided by Career Services in finding internship and job opportunities.

Roles of your advisors

You have access to three different types of advisors: your academic advisor, faculty advisor and career counselor. Each person plays a part in your college experience.

Academic advisor

You’ll be assigned an academic advisor based on your major before your first semester. Your advisor will help you create your four-year academic plan. We know things can change while you’re in college, so don’t worry. If you change your major or switch a class, your academic advisor will work closely with you to help you stay on a track. We’re just as dedicated as you are to see a degree in your hand in four years.

Faculty advisor

Once you’ve declared a major, your academic department will assign you a faculty advisor. Your faculty advisor will provide you expert information as you make decisions that will impact your future academic and professional goals. Turn to them when you have questions about major courses, internship and service learning opportunities, networking connections and additional opportunities in the field.

Career counselor

A career counselor will assist with understanding the relationship between your educational choices and career fields, as well as the internship and job search.

Academic Clusters

When you start at the university you have the option to declare a major, which would then put you into a major cluster pairing you with an advisor in that cluster. Then if you choose to switch your major within the same cluster, you will remain with the same advisor (with the exception of undeclared students).
