Departmental Credits by Examinations

  • Certain departments offer departmentally based examinations for credit.

  • Departmental examinations should be taken before the student is enrolled in the equivalent course or in any higher-level course for which it is a prerequisite. With departmental permission, a student can take the test for a course in which s/he is enrolled, but this must be done before the end of the first week of classes.
  • Credit by exam cannot be used to repeat courses already attempted at or transferred to UW-Eau Claire.
  • A student must first meet with the department chair of the department offering the course to see if the course is available for credit by examination and to evaluate whether the student has the requisite background.
  • Once the department chair has agreed that the student is eligible, the student must pay $75 before taking the exam.
