Dr. Izaksonas has over 25 years of direct practice experience as a social worker in multiple settings. She has worked at Latino serving agencies in Michigan and Minnesota where she developed programs and provided therapy. In the social welfare arena, Dr. Izaksonas has provided services in child protection, adolescent parents and developmental disabilities. In the community, Dr. Izaksonas has provided expert testimony before legislative bodies, has conducted numerous trainings on culturally appropriate social work practice, and has served on the boards of various community agencies. Her areas of interest include child welfare, technology and teaching, international social work, and the advancement of strengths based and empowerment theories as they apply to Latino communities in family policy, migrant farmworker families, immigration, and Latino adolescent educational disparities.
