What nonprofit did you work with?

Feed My People Food Bank



What did you do for your service-learning?

I organized an event called the Bread of Life at my church to raise money for Feed My People Food Bank. It all started with proposing the idea of a "bake-a-thon", an all day baking event where community members could come together and bake loaves of bread. This bread would then be sold after a church service, and the proceeds would be donated to Feed My People Food Bank. I was responsible for gathering market research of the ingredients needed and organizing the full event from start to finish.

What motivated you to choose this project?

Baking has always been a hobby of mine, so I wanted to do something I loved, while helping my community.

Is your service-learning relevant to your field of study?

Yes, as a business management major I found myself using a lot of my organizational, communication, and marketing skills throughout this project. These are vital building blocks that can be used in almost every career.

How did you impact your community?

Through the Bread of Life project, I raised over $1,000 that was donated to Feed My People Food Bank. I used my gift of baking to give back to those who are less fortunate and cannot afford a meal.

Would you recommend this to other students?

Well, this specific project I made up based on my own skills and preferences, so I wouldn't recommend other students do this same thing, but I would recommend that students personalize their projects. It's important to serve others with the skills that you have. That way it is more rewarding for you and those you're helping.

How would you summarize the experience in one sentence?

You never know what you can learn from an experience until you do it, and I learned a lot!

So far my favorite class has been Kins 262 with Tracy Yengo

What has been your most memorable time at Eau Claire?

I LOVE going to the Viennese Ball!
