What nonprofit did you work with?

University of Wisconsin Eau Claire- Mobile Development Class

What did you do for your service-learning?

I, along with my mobile development class lead by Chris Johnson, have created an application for individuals with communication or cognitive disorders (specifically those with aphasia) Currently, there is not anything out there that allows these individuals to communicate with each other.

What motivated you to choose this project?

It isn't often that I have been able to involve my degree with the goal of directly helping others. So when I saw this opportunity, I knew I wanted to get involved.

Is your service-learning relevant to your field of study?

I was surprised how relevant this service-learning was to my career aspirations of computer science. This project expanded my knowledge of applications for both android and IOS devices.

How did you impact your community?

Ultimately, I hope that I helped bridge the communication barrier that exists for those with communication or cognitive disorders. This application will take a long time to be perfect, but I'm trying to do my part to make a difference.

Would you recommend this to other students?

I would recommend this project to other students that have a background in computer science and a basic knowledge of coding. This service-learning has been a great learning experience for me and I think others in this field would enjoy it as well.

Could you summarize the experience in one sentence?

The project was overwhelming at first, but very interesting once we got into it!
