Resources for Blugolds

The UW-Eau Claire Police department offers a variety of resources to aid our students and staff.

Campus Conduct

UW-Eau Claire has a set of ordinances or administrative rules enforced by the UW-Eau Claire Police Department. These rules are in addition to laws already enforced by our department. View the current UWS 18.06 rules.

Emergency Phones

In 1995, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire installed Emergency Phones to enhance the safety of all students, staff, and visitors. The phones were placed in strategic areas to assist persons in need of emergency assistance. Currently, there are 12 Emergency Phones in various areas of campus, including parking lots, exteriors of buildings, along sidewalks, and near athletic fields.

These Emergency Phones are identifiable as blue colored poles with “Emergency” in white lettering along the sides. Once activated by pushing the red button, a blue strobe light will activate on the top of the pole and the caller will be able to speak directly with the Eau Claire County 911 Communications Center. UW-Eau Claire Police Officers will then be sent to the area to assist the caller.

These telephones are for emergency use only. Any unlawful activation of the telephone system will result in a fine and/or jail.

Mental Health Resources

The UW-Eau Claire Police Department recognizes the need for mental health resources in a college setting.

To provide the best response, UW-Eau Claire Police Officers are required to attend a specialized 40 hour Crisis Intervention Training (CIT). This training, which is specific to law enforcement, was developed and facilitated in coordination with local mental health professionals and NAMI (National Association of Mental Illness). In addition, officers attend other trainings that assist in de-escalating situations that we respond to.

There are many resources on campus and within our community that can be utilized 24/7. We encourage all students, faculty and staff to reach out to these resources when needed.

The UW Mental Health Support 24/7 line offers 24/7 on-demand counseling support with a trained counselor and bilingual services in English and Spanish. You can access services via:

Training and Presentations

R.A.D. Basic Physical Defense

R.A.D. stands for Rape Aggression Defense and it is the nation’s largest self-defense course. R.A.D. is taught by certified instructors and includes a manual for each participant to outline a comprehensive plan of defense. The R.A.D. approach is comprised of awareness, prevention, risk reduction and risk avoidance which progresses into the basics of hands-on defense training. R.A.D. is divided by gender identities because the strategies, tactics, and goals differ and classes have moments where physical contact occurs during training.

R.A.D. is a 9-hour class that is split into three 3-hour sessions. Class sizes are limited so our instructor to student ratio is the most effective.

ALICE Active Threat Training

The UW-Eau Claire Police Department began teaching ALICE in 2000 with our two certified instructors. This is an effective method of active threat response training. ALICE is an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate. Alice Training allows one to be better prepared in a situation of a violent critical incident or active threat situation.

Please contact the University Police with questions related to this training, or how to request an ALICE training session.
