Graduate Assistantship/Fellowship/AOP Application

Students admitted to a graduate program in full standing are eligible to apply for Graduate Assistantship positions, Graduate Foundation Fellowships, and Advanced Opportunity Program (AOP) grants.  The Graduate Assistantships are employment based, and students are paid monthly for a 9-month term (or shorter).  Students hired to work at least 13.3-hours per week throughout the academic year as a graduate assistant, are eligible to elect a health insurance plan for a minimal cost. In addition, nonresident students may be eligible for an out-of-state tuition remission. In 2017-2018, the salary for a full-time (20-hrs/wk) graduate assistant was $10,742; however, most GA positions are for 13.3-hours/week.  March 1 is the deadline for preferred consideration for Graduate Assistantships and/or Fellowships, although some programs may have earlier deadlines. Please check with the appropriate college/department for information. Graduate Assistantships and Fellowships typically are awarded in early April, but applications will be accepted until all positions have been filled. Students completing the financial aid application after the deadline will be considered for awards if monies are available. Students applying for January admission should check with the college/department of their program to determine if assistantships/fellowship opportunities are available. An applicant listing may be made available for media publication.
