The First Offenders (FOF) Class is offered to UWEC students (only UW-Eau Claire student are eligible) who have received an underage drinking citation or would like to learn more about alcohol use in a group setting. Individuals who would like to attend the class for personal reasons will be required to complete an initial intake session with a counselor with UWEC Counseling Services. The class is designed to address three main goals:
- Education about alcohol/substance use
- Build skills for moderate and safe use
- Reflection about personal use
This class will provide information in order that students can make educated/informed decisions about consumption in the future.To abide by Eau Claire County requirements, this is an eight-hour course, and students must attend all eight (8) hours to receive credit for the class. Our First Offender Classes are facilitated by professional staff members. All students who have paid the fee and complete the program in its entirety will receive a certificate of completion the date of the class.
To enroll in the class, please bring proof of UWEC student status and $40 (cash or check only NON-REFUNDABLE) to Counseling Services, located at Old Library 2122. Enrollment is on a first-come, first-serve basis. You will be asked to complete an enrollment form and you will be provided a handout regarding the class and expectations. You are welcome to complete these forms in advance and bring them to Counseling Services when you register. Preregistration is a requirement; same-day enrollment is not permitted.
NOTE: It is the student's responsibility to confirm with the court whether this class meets the requirements for the court. The student is also responsible for submitting the class completion form to the court system. UWEC Counseling Services is not responsible for providing confirmation of attendance to court systems.
