Eighth Blackbird

Wednesday, February 28, 2018

Gantner Hall, Haas Fine Arts Center

7:30 p.m.

With a 4-time Grammy Award winning music combination of flutes, clarinets, violins, viola, cello, percussion and piano, Eighth Blackbird is a contemporary classical ensemble quickly earning brand-name status. The Chicago-based group is known for visual stage shows that employ choreography and collaboration with theater artists, along with elaborate lighting designs and even occasional puppetry artists. A self-stated goal of the ensemble is "to move music forward through innovative performance" in ways that will extend beyond recording and touring into realms of curation and education. The Chicago Tribune has labeled Eighth Blackbird"one of the smartest, most dynamic contemporary classical ensembles on the planet."

Between tour dates worldwide, Eighth Blackbird played multiple sets at the second annual Eaux Claires Music & Arts Festival in 2016.
