Local Independence was started in 2007 by Scott Morfitt in an effort to showcase some of the musical and artistic talent that is in the Chippewa Valley. David Smuhl took over the show in 2009 in an effort to continue this mission. The show features music by artists from Wisconsin and Minnesota, as well as local and regional artists performing spoken word, and regular interviews with musicians and artists. In the past, the show has featured Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Ben Larson (Farms), and a slew of other artists.
