S5 stands for Simple Standards-Based Slide Show System. "What is that?" you ask. It's a way to produce a PowerPoint-like slide show that is lightweight, printer-friendly, easy to create, completely accessible, totally based on Web standards, and contained in one file. It uses CSS, XHTML and JavaScript.
Eric Meyer explains this in more detail on his site, meyerweb.com. If you go directly to the examples, you just need to know that you use the space bar, right arrow, down arrow or return to advance to the next slide. Other features are explained in the introduction.
Creating a presentation using any of the themes provided on meyerweb.com is fairly easy. Creating a custom theme takes some time, so we've done this for you. You can view a UW-Eau Claire theme in the presentation below.
In case you'd like to give this kind of slide show a try for your UW-Eau Claire presentation, we've provided you with a zip file (S5Zip.zip). Simply unzip the files and follow the general instructions in the Eric Meyer Primer. You will need to know something about HTML code to understand the instructions.
