Civic Engagement Initiatives in STEM Disciplines Conference

Patricia Cleary, Geosciences, UW-Parkside, and Jim Madsen, Physics, UW-River Falls, are organizing a one day conference on using civic engagement to improve science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) understanding and instruction in the University of Wisconsin System (UWS).  All travel costs will be covered by the UWS’s Office of Professional and Instructional Development.

 Participants are sought who:

 

Ø Have utilized SENCER (Science Education for New Civic Engagement and Responsibilities) or other civic engagement initiatives in their STEM course

 

Ø Teach a course that serves multiple purposes, disciplines or audiences (upper level major, general education, teacher education, etc…)

 

Ø Want to join a cohort of UWS educators who have developed, or are committed to developing unique pedagogical approaches to teach STEM courses

 

Ø Wish to elucidate common themes of successful courses that cross disciplines and audiences

 

Capacity is limited, so early registration is encouraged.
