A psychological perception
related (in a non-linear and poorly understood way) to the amplitude of the
sound waveform. As a first approximation, there is a logarithmic relation,
L = log(I / J), where J is a just perceptible intensity of sound and the
intensity of the heard sound I is not inordinately large (i.e. this equation is
not valid for I tending to infinity).
