Image Denoising

When images are acquired by various devices, or are transmitted over various communication channels, they often pick up random clutter (called noise).  Removing this noise is an absolutely essential part of image processing.  For example, the image below on the left is a noisy version of the boats image shown on the right.  In the middle we show a denoised image obtained by a wavelet-based method.   This wavelet-based method will be discussed in detail in the course, and its relation to how our visual system works will be explained as well.
