Image Denoising
When
images are acquired by various devices, or are transmitted over various
communication channels, they often pick up random clutter (called noise).
Removing this noise is an absolutely essential part of image
processing. For example, the image below on the left is a noisy
version of the boats image shown on the right. In the middle we
show a denoised image obtained by a wavelet-based method. This
wavelet-based method will be discussed in detail in the course, and its
relation to how our visual system works will be explained as well.
