Image Compression

An important topic in image processing is image compression.  For example, when images are transmitted over the Internet, or within PDF files, they are typically compressed (either as JPEG or JPEG2000 files).   In the course, we will examine how image compression works, using freeware (Image Analyzer) and open-source software (ImComp).  The two most commonly used compression methods, JPEG and its successor JPEG2000 will be explained, as well as the fundamentals of image compression in general.
The figures below illustrate image compression, the method used to generate the compression will be fully explained in the course.
