The University Women’s Association has existed since 1916 for the purpose of providing opportunities for building community among those associated with the university.Through the years UWA has played an important role in serving the university and supporting the needs of university families and individuals.
Participants have developed friendships as they participated in monthly small groups of special interests, such as book discussions, film discussions, bridge, quilting, luncheon-out, and crafts and stitchery. Some ideas for additional groups for this year include a cooking group and a moms and young families group.
To provide support for students, UWA established the Emergency Grant Fund in 1985 with recipient preference being the non-traditional female student in need of emergency assistance by the UW-EC Foundation.
All women of UW-EC faculty or staff and wives of faculty or staff—past or present—are invited to participate in the University Women’s Association and its varied activities. There are two meetings each year for all the membership. The first meeting will be on Monday, September 26, 2011, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. in the Hibbard Hall Penthouse. Our second meeting is a luncheon meeting to be scheduled in the spring.
As president of UWA this year I encourage you to participate! Many of us have demanding jobs and family obligations. UWA is something you can do just for you. Come and relax and network with new friends and old. Connect with an interest group. Learn more about the UW-EC community.
