Print materials

University Communications staff in the Publications Office and News Bureau work with departments across campus to create printed materials promoting their programs and activities. (See specific types of print projects and whom to contact for assistance.) Our writers and artists can help with message and design, and we can help coordinate photography for your project.

Start planning early if you would like materials prepared by a specific date. Writers and artists are busy with numerous projects at all times and need lead time when taking on new projects. (See University Communications services availability information.)

Writers need one to three weeks to work on copy, and artists typically need two to eight weeks for design. The complexity of your project (colors, original photos/artwork, etc.) will influence the time needed to complete the design process. If the project requires original photography, add two to three weeks to arrange for photo shoots.

Your materials can be printed using on- or off-campus printing services. For off-campus printing, allow two to six weeks (depending on the complexity of the project). For on-campus printing of one- or two-color projects, plan for one to two weeks.

For all print materials, there is no charge for writing and design services, but your office or department will pay the cost to publish the ad or print the materials. You also pay the cost of any original photography.

See the Printed Materials Planning Guide for sample project timelines.
