About Us

How it all began

Tri Sigma was founded on Farmville, VA at Longwood College on April 20, 1898. Eight young woman had a dream and they made it come true by forming this sorority. These women's names are: Margaret Batten, Louise Davis, Martha Trent Featherston, Isabella Merrick, Sallie Michie, Lelia Scott, Elisabeth Watkins, and Lucy Wright.

Founders

Sigma Foundation

Sigma Sigma Sigma is an International Panhellenic Conference Sorority. The purpose of our founding holds true today. Tri Sigma aims to ensure a perpetual bond of friendship, develop strong womanly character, and to promote high standards of conduct.

The Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation centers its philanthropic efforts around the theme "Sigma Serves Children," specifically through the Robbie Page Memorial. Established following the 1951 death of the son of the sorority's National president, RPM supported various polio projects including the Salk vaccine trials.

Long range programming to develop and support play therapy for hospitalized children began at North Carolina Memorial Hospital. By focusing on the emotional and developmental needs of the children, funds raised by collegiate and alumnae chapters were used not only to establish playrooms, but to create a specialized field of study for professionals in child development and associated health care professions.

Mission Statement

Sigma Sigma Sigma promotes a perpetual bond of friendship, develops strong womanly character and inspires high standards of ethical conduct.

Sigma Serves Children

The University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma, Gamma Lambda, has done many different things to help support children.  Recently, we have been working with the Bolton Refuge house.  The Bolton Refuge House provides a home women & children of domestic abuse.  They also have programs for families that provide encouragement and a sense of community.   Sigma Sigma Sigma has also volunteered in multiple Special Olympics and had a team jump in the Polar Plunge.  Our biggest event was our first annual Rock-A-Thon on May 11th.  It included six live bands, a raffle, a fake jail with bail, crafts and board games.  The crafts and ALL proceeds were donated to our national foundation and the children’s wings of two local hospitals.  We are planning on doing a Rock-A-Thon every Spring semester so watch for advertisements and come help us support the children!  If you know of a band that would want to perform, or any ideas of how to better serve the children, please let us know!
