The Blugold athletics program had an exceptional season during 2009-10. Out of more than 430 schools in NCAA Division III, the Blugolds finished 16th in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings. In addition to its success in sports, the program won a national community service award, and the group of more than 500 student-athletes combined for a grade-point average of 3.16, the highest GPA the department has ever achieved.
While the women’s cross country team won the NCAA Division III national title last fall, the Blugolds continued their successes in the spring. Chris Wirtz claimed an individual national title at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, while the women’s golf team took third at its NCAA Championship. In all, 13 of the 22 sports sponsored by UW-Eau Claire were represented at NCAA championships this season.
