Last fall the Blugolds had yet another impressive showing, not only at the conference level but also at the national level.
Of the seven conference championship fall sports the UW-Eau Claire athletics program supports, none finished lower than fourth place. The women’s cross country team won the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference title for the second year in a row, while the women’s volleyball team tied for first. Soccer finished second, as did women’s golf, with football and women’s tennis taking third. Men’s cross country took fourth place, its best finish since the 2001-02 season.
Women’s cross country, soccer and volleyball all competed as teams in the NCAA Division III Championships, while men’s cross country sent an individual to the national meet for the first time since 2001. The women’s cross country team took fifth place at the national meet, up three places from the year before. Soccer and volleyball both made second-round appearances in their national tournaments, a round further than the year before.
Head coaches Dan Schwamberger (women’s cross country), Kim Wudi (volleyball) and (women’s golf) all garnered WIAC Coach of the Year honors.
