The Blugolds also excelled in the classroom. For the 2007-08 academic year, the Blugolds posted a 3.04 grade-point average, the seventh year in a row the student-athletes finished above a 3.0. A total of 315 Blugolds were named to the WIAC Scholastic Honor Roll. On the national stage, football player Paul Bielmeier led the Blugolds with a CoSIDA/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American selection, while a total of seven received All-District honors.
Bielmeier also was a semifinalist for the 2009 Draddy Trophy, which recognizes one individual annually as the absolute best in the country for combined academic success, football performance and exemplary community leadership.
Cross country team members Hannah Humbach, Jenna Smith, Jules Miller and Tom Breitbach all received recognition on this year’s U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-Academic Team. The Blugolds also captured four of the conference’s seven Scholar-Athlete awards last fall. The winners were Kevin Hall (men’s cross country), Beth Lutz (women’s cross country), Abby Freiborg (volleyball) and Allie Rivard (soccer).
