UW-Eau Claire is offering the UW System’s first bachelor of professional studies degree and UW-Eau Claire’s first fully online bachelor’s degree completion program beginning this fall semester. The new bachelor of professional studies degree in organizational leadership and communication was approved June 10 by the UW System Board of Regents.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, workers with comprehensive skills and knowledge are needed in almost every industry. In response, UW-Eau Claire and UW-Extension partnered to create the new 60-credit degree completion program, which combines communication and traditional liberal arts courses — including economics, history, philosophy, political science and sociology — with course work from the College of Business.
Marty Wood, dean of the UW-Eau Claire College of Arts and Sciences, said the new degree meets the needs of a population that has been underserved: students who want to finish their college degrees but are unable to take time away from work and family obligations.
The program is designed for adults who have completed an associate of arts and sciences degree at a UW System two-year campus, those who have completed a comparable associate degree or individuals with sufficient transferable credits to pursue their educational goals.
