Lisa Stark ’79, a UW-Eau Claire art graduate, was recently elected to serve as a Wisconsin 3rd District Court of Appeals judge. Stark previously served for 13 years as a Circuit Court judge for Eau Claire County and currently is dean of the Wisconsin Judicial College.
“It is an honor and a privilege to continue to serve the citizens of the state of Wisconsin on the Court of Appeals, and this is the culmination for me of a very rewarding legal career,” Stark said.
Stark said she appreciated the varied course offerings available at UW-Eau Claire, which allowed her to explore beyond her art background.
“I discovered my love of the law through a constitutional law class with Professor Karl Andresen,” Stark said. “He and, later, my colleague Judge Eric Wahl, who taught my business law class, greatly influenced my decision to go to law school.”
Although fine art is not the traditional background for a lawyer, Stark said the art and other liberal arts classes at UW-Eau Claire fostered her creativity and ability to “think outside the box.”
“The quality of education at UW-Eau Claire prepared me well for the rigors of law school and the demands of my legal career,” Stark said.
