Dave Sarafin ’82, a UW-Eau Claire accounting graduate, recently was awarded the Commanders Award for Civilian Service for his duties as a senior evaluator for the U.S. Army Sustainment Command based in Rock Island, Ill.
The award recognizes Sarafin’s efforts in communicating valuable information to the highest levels of the U.S. Army, the Department of Defense and Congress. Sarafin has traveled throughout the world, including multiple deployments to Southwest Asia in support of contingency operations in the region.
Sarafin said his UW-Eau Claire classes prepared him well for his varied career responsibilities.
“My accounting classes prepared me for the analytical aspects of the job,” Sarafin said. “But the communication classes I originally took as ‘easy summer school classes’ were invaluable preparation in developing my communication skills for interviewing and interacting with the general officers I dealt with every day.”
Sarafin has served the U.S. government for 34 years, including four years of active duty in the U.S. Air Force.
