Julie Furst-Bowe '85Julie Furst-Bowe ’85, a UW-Eau Claire journalism graduate, recently began her duties as chancellor of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. Furst-Bowe, a native of Chippewa Falls, previously served at UW-Stout for nearly 22 years as a faculty member, department chair, associate vice chancellor, assistant chancellor, and provost and vice chancellor. She holds a

master’s degree from UW-Stout and a doctorate from the University of Minnesota.

“I had a great experience at UW-Eau Claire both in and out of the classroom,” Furst-Bowe said. “I was interested in so many subjects as an undergraduate, such as writing, photography and graphic design, that I went on to earn a master’s degree in media technology and later taught courses in those areas.”

Furst-Bowe has received numerous state and national awards, including the Outstanding Achievement Award from Wisconsin Women in Higher Education Leadership in 2011.

“I received excellent career advice during my four years at UW-Eau Claire,” Furst-Bowe said. “Two of my favorite faculty members, Susan Harrison (professor of mathematics and chair of the University Senate) and Margaret Cassidy (professor of sociology and associate dean, College of Arts and Sciences) continue to be outstanding teachers and fabulous role models for women.”
