Brian Goldbeck ’73, ’79 is the consul general at the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou, China, providing services to U.S. citizens; promoting trade and investment; reporting on economic, political and social developments; and providing travel services to Chinese citizens visiting or immigrating to the United States.
Goldbeck holds degrees in political science and education from UW-Eau Claire and has worked for the State Department since 1983. He served four years on Army active duty and 24 years in the Army Reserve. In addition to 37 years of federal service, Goldbeck recalls jobs as a teacher, short-order cook, track coach, furniture delivery person, farmhand and hotel handyman.
“I’ve used every one of those skills in my current job,” Goldbeck said.
Goldbeck is one of 11,500 Foreign Service professionals worldwide at 265 embassies, consulates and diplomatic missions.
“It has been a distinct honor to serve our great nation, and I am proud of our accomplishments,” he said.
