Linda Eggert ’85 has been named public information director for the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. The UW-Eau Claire journalism graduate saw the position as an opportunity to promote public safety on a large scale. She previously was a reporter for WISC-TV in Madison for 20 years.
“I continue to be completely awed by the scope of this agency and inspired by the incredible talent here,” Eggert said. “It’s thrilling to be a part of a team that does such remarkable work day in and day out. They often get little or no public recognition, but I’m all about changing that!”
At an early age, Eggert ran around her house with a microphone and tape recorder. A high school teacher later recommended the journalism program at UW-Eau Claire. But it took a stint at campus radio station WUEC-FM and a part-time job at WEAU-TV in Eau Claire to completely convince her that communications and journalism would be in her future.
“I simply would not be where I am today without UW-Eau Claire and journalism professor (emeritus) Henry Lippold,” Eggert said. “He gave me the skills and confidence to pursue a TV reporting career.”
Eggert and her husband, Scott Theison, live on the east side of Madison.
