Catherine “Cate” Furay ’74, a UW-Eau Claire psychology graduate, recently was installed as a U.S. bankruptcy judge for the Western District of Wisconsin. She and her husband, Jim Sweet ’75, met while participating in student government at UW-Eau Claire, and both subsequently earned law degrees from the UW Law School. Mary Beth White-Jacobs ’82, a UW-Eau Claire nursing graduate, was named president and CEO of Black River Memorial Hospital in June 2013. Erik Helland ’87, a UW-Eau Claire physical education graduate, has been selected as the men’s basketball strength and conditioning coach for the UW-Madison Badgers. Michael Quimby ’97, a UW-Eau Claire broadfield social studies graduate, returned to the Peruvian Amazon and Napo rivers for the fifth time in April 2013. Participating as a volunteer in the CONAPAC (Civil Association for Conservation of the Peruvian Amazon Environment) Adopt-A-School program, Quimby helped deliver school supplies to more than 50 jungle communities.
