Catherine "Cate" Furay '74

Catherine “Cate” Furay ’74, a UW-Eau Claire psychology graduate, recently was installed as a U.S. bankruptcy judge for the Western District of Wisconsin. She and her husband, Jim Sweet ’75, met while participating in student government at UW-Eau Claire, and both subsequently earned law degrees from the UW Law School. Dave Sarafin ’82, a UW-Eau Claire accounting graduate, recently was awarded the Commanders Award for Civilian Service for his duties as a senior evaluator for the U.S. Army Sustainment Command based in Rock Island, Ill. Mary Beth White-Jacobs '82

Mary Beth White-Jacobs ’82, a UW-Eau Claire nursing graduate, was named president and CEO of Black River Memorial Hospital in June 2013. Beginning as a staff nurse at BRMH in 1982, White-Jacobs has held a variety of leadership positions within the hospital, most recently as vice president of patient care services. “Health care is changing,”  > Full story.

Erik Helland ’87, a UW-Eau Claire physical education graduate, has been selected as the men’s basketball strength and conditioning coach for the UW-Madison Badgers. For the past 25 years Helland was a member of the Chicago Bulls strength and conditioning staff, serving as head strength coach beginning in 2001. Helland said that as a student  > Full story.

Barbara Palmer ’89, a UW-Eau Claire political science graduate, recently received the Gigax Faculty Scholarship Award from Baldwin Wallace University, where she serves as an associate professor of political science. Michael Quimby '97

Michael Quimby ’97, a UW-Eau Claire broadfield social studies graduate, returned to the Peruvian Amazon and Napo rivers for the fifth time in April 2013. Participating as a volunteer in the CONAPAC (Civil Association for Conservation of the Peruvian Amazon Environment) Adopt-A-School program, Quimby helped deliver school supplies to more than 50 jungle communities. John Horn '98

John Horn ’98, a UW-Eau Claire physical education graduate, has been named director of the Division of Recreational Sports at UW-Madison. He joined the division in 2004 as director of recreational programs and facilities and has served as its interim director since September 2012. Rachel (Dunlap) Sayre ’03, a UW-Eau Claire journalism graduate, has served for the past two years as a Presidential Management Fellow at the U.S. Agency for International Development in Washington, D.C. Ryan Severson ’03, a UW-Eau Claire management graduate, is a master sergeant in the Wisconsin Air National Guard who recently returned from his fourth tour of duty overseas. Severson, who as a civilian works as a regional sales manager for West Bend Mutual Insurance Co., has been deployed four times since graduating from UW-Eau Claire.  > Full story.
