Matt Sharp EAU CLAIRE – Matt Sharp, of The Rentals and Weezer fame, will headline a concert on Friday, December 9 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Doors will open at 8 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center. The show is open to all ages.

Matt Sharp is probably best known as a founding member the popular rock band Weezer. In 1994, following the tremendous success of “The Blue Album”, Weezer’s debut collection, Matt Sharp formed the rock band The Rentals. In 1995 The Rentals released their first album “Return Of (The Rentals)”, featuring the modern rock radio hit “Friends of P”, which went to #7 on Billboard’s Modern Rock Chart and #92 on Billboard Hot 100.

Matt Sharp left Weezer in early 1998 after the release of the group’s second album, “Pinkerton”. In 1999, after touring on the release of their second album “Seven More Minutes”, The Rentals disbanded and Matt Sharp disappeared from the public eye.

Sharp returned in the fall of 2002 with an acoustic tour, touring with guitarist Greg Brown of Cake. In 2003 Sharp released a solo EP entitled “Puckett's Versus The Country Boy” and in 2004 a full-length self-titled solo album. Then, in October of 2005, on the tenth anniversary of the bands formation, Sharp announced the return of The Rentals.

The Rentals are currently in Los Angeles writing, rehearsing and preparing to record a third album. The December 9th show at UW-Eau Claire is being said to “most likely be the last solo acoustic show Matt Sharp does for some time to come” according to The Rentals website. After this performance, Sharp will be returning to Los Angeles to give full focus to the future of The Rentals.

Local group The Daredevil Christopher Wright will open the show.

Tickets are $10 ($7 with a UW-Eau Claire student ID card) and will be available at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, and also will be sold at the door.

Patrons may also charge tickets to MasterCard or Visa when they order by phone. Call (715) 836-3727 -- or, outside the immediate Eau Claire area, call toll-free (800) 949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to all telephone charge orders.

Heiruspecs EAU CLAIRE -- Minneapolis-based hip-hop band Heiruspecs will headline a UAC Concert on Friday, November 18 at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. Tre Hardson, formerly of popular hip-hop group The Pharcyde, will appear as a special guest. Doors will open at 8 p.m. in the Council Fire Room of Davies Center. The show is open to all ages.

Heiruspecs, pronounced high-roo-spex, recently released its sophomore album, 'Small Steps.' Making giant steps in the live hip-hop arena, Heiruspecs have set necks snapping nationwide and 'Small Steps' has earned the band loads of critical acclaim. The album was voted as one of the Top 20 records of 2002 by the Star Tribune, and Heiruspecs have also been written up in such magazines as Jane and URB.

Formed in 1997 while its members were enrolled at an arts high school, Heiruspecs is consistently cited as one of the most promising acts in the thriving Midwest hip-hop scene. Performing with such groups as Jurassic 5, Busta Rhymes, Anti-Pop Consortium, the White Stripes and Mason Jennings, Heiruspecs has also served as backing band for Atmosphere, Sage Francis, Aesop Rock, Oddjobs and Typical Cats.

Special guest Tre Hardson first introduced himself to the world as “Slimkid Tre,” dazzling crowds worldwide with his infectious ability to wholly entertain as part of legendary rap quartet The Pharcyde. The Pharcyde gained notoriety with their 1992 debut, ‘Bizarre Ride II: The Pharcyde’, which went gold with now-classics like “Ya Mama” and “Passin’ Me By.” In 1994, The Pharcyde released ‘Labcabincalifornia’. With hits like the lead single “Runnin’” and the surreal “Drop,” their sophomore album went on to sell over 450,000.

Tre Hardson went solo in 2000 and began performing with a live band. His debut solo album, ‘Liberation’ was released through Artist Direct/BMG Records. It includes hip-hop material as well as introduces Tre’s singing abilities with songs reminiscent of Bill Withers-type love ballads. Guest artists included Saul Williams, Chali 2na, MC Lyte, and Kim Hill (Black Eyed Peas). Tre is currently in the studio working on his latest album, “SlimKid3’s Café” to be released in early 2006.

Tickets are $6 ($4 with a UW-Eau Claire student ID card) at the University Service Center, (715) 836-3727, and will be sold at the door.

Patrons may also charge tickets to MasterCard or Visa when they order by phone. Call (715) 836-3727 -- or, outside the immediate Eau Claire area, call toll-free (800) 949-UWEC. A $3 handling fee will be added to all telephone charge orders.
