Active Organizations

The Student Accounting Society was formed at UWEC in 1976. The Zeta Omicron Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, a national accounting honor society, initiated its charter members at UWEC on April 4, 1982. Since that time, the two groups have operated as a joint organization sharing common officers and common purposes. The purpose of Beta Alpha Psi is to instill in its members desire for self-improvement, to foster high moral and ethical standards, to encourage and give recognition to scholastic and professional excellence, to cultivate a sense of responsibility and service, to promote the collegiate study of accountancy, and to provide opportunities for association among its members and practicing accountants. The purposes of the Student Accounting Society are: to assist members in acquiring contact with professionals in the accounting field, to broaden each member's practical knowledge in the accounting field, to maintain close and effective contacts with the accounting profession, to promote social and professional spirit among UWEC accounting students, and to assist the members in preparation for interviews with professional accountants. Membership in Student Accounting Society is open to students majoring or minoring in Accounting, Finance, or Information Systems who are enrolled or have completed Accounting 201. Membership in Beta Alpha Psi is open to Student Accounting Society members who have at least a 3.0 gradepoint average, are in upper division major field courses, and are in the top 35% of students in the School of Business. Officers are elected at the second meeting in November.
