Sigma Tau Delta National Professional English Fraternity was founded in 1925. The UWEC Chapter was chartered in 1956.
The purpose of Sigma Tau Delta is to promote the mastery of written expression, encouraging worthwhile reading, and fostering a spirit of fellowship among men and women specializing in English. The UWEC Chapter has as its objectives toward this purpose: to confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature; to provide cultural stimulation at UWEC; to encourage group interest within the English Department; to assign members citizenship responsibilities; and to encourage creative and critical writing.
Membership is open to all students with an English major or minor.
Meetings are regularly scheduled during the second and fourth week of each month. Elections are conducted in May.
