Active Organizations

The national organization which was founded in 1921 granted a charter to the Eau Claire chapter in February 1979.

The purpose of this organization is to recognize those students with high scholarship in physics. The objectives of the society are to stimulate greater interest in physics, increase contact of the general student body with physics, encourage and assist students interested in physics, and to strengthen the Physics Department.

Students elected to membership must obtain high standards of general scholarship and outstanding achievement in physics. Undergraduate candidates must be in the upper one-third of their class, and have had at least three semesters of college level physics. Graduate students and faculty may be elected at anytime. Students who are not physics majors may be elected into membership provided that they meet the standards and have demonstrated an interest in physics.

Meetings are held monthly, with a student or faculty member speaker at every meeting. Other activities include movies, field trips, and social events for faculty members and students. Officers are elected each spring for a term which lasts one year.
