The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi was founded in 1897 and formed at UWEC in May 1971.

The primary purpose of this Society is to promote the pursuit of excellence in all fields of higher education by recognizing outstanding achievement by students and faculty.

Membership is open to undergraduate students of sound character who have completed at least two semesters and 30 credits at UWEC and who are in the final term of their junior year, ranked scholastically in the upper five percent of their class; or are seniors in a course leading to a baccalaureate, ranked in the upper ten percent of their class. Graduate students, resident faculty or staff, and alumni are also eligible for membership.

Three regular meetings are held each year. Officers are elected in the spring.
