Kappa Tau Alpha, national journalism honor society, was founded at the University of Missouri in 1910. The UWEC chapter was granted its charter on April 28, 1979.
The founders of the society believed that their own devotion to high standards of scholarship and professional conduct would be strengthened by union with students in other institutions who might join with them in such ideals. Election is based solely on scholarship and good character.
Students are eligible and invited for membership in KTA if they have completed five resident semesters of university study, nine credits of professional courses, and they have a gradepoint average of at least 3.6. Selection is made by the faculty, with initiation in the spring of each year.
