Delta Tau Chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon, National Geographical Honor Society, was chartered on campus in November 1971.
The purpose of Gamma Theta Upsilon is to: further professional interest in geography by affording a common organization for those interested in the field; to strengthen student and professional training through academic experiences other than those of the classroom and laboratory; to advance the status of geography as a cultural and practical discipline for study and investigation; to encourage student research of high quality and to promote an outlet for publication; and to create and administer funds for furthering graduate study and/or research in the field of geography.
Associate membership is open to any student who has completed at least two university level courses in geography with a minimum gradepoint average of 3.0. Regular membership requires three university level courses in geography with a gradepoint average of 3.0 in geography courses and overall. All initiates must rank in the upper 35% of their class and shall have completed at least three semesters of college courses.
Meetings are usually held bi-weekly, and officers are elected at the April general meeting for a one-year term.
