The National Society of Alpha Lambda Delta, Honorary Scholastic Fraternities for Freshman Students, was founded in 1924. The UWEC Chapter was formed in 1969 and received its charter on October 31, 1971.

The purpose of this organization is to encourage and recognize superior scholastic attainment among students in their freshman year at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.

To be eligible for membership in Alpha Lambda Delta, a student must be registered for a course of study leading to a bachelor's degree and have earned a minimum of 15 credits with a cumulative gradepoint of at least 3.5. Members are active and hold office only during their second year in college. After this time, they will be collegiate alumnae.

Meetings are held at least once each semester.
