Where: The
future site Difficulty: There is no other place in the immediate area with the twists, turns, hills, moguls, and varied terrain that one can find at this Altoona hot spot. The terrain varies from rocky, to smooth, to sandy, to rutty. Some of the trails you can shoot through with gangbusters, while others require endurance and precision in navigation. A nice quality about this area is that you can pick and choose which trails you want to tackle, and are never forced to push the limits of your abilities. The difficulty and cragginess make the necessity of a helmet and front fork suspension a no brainer. Aesthetic quality: This is a beautifully wooded area with plenty of thick plant life lingering under a towering dome of trees. It is not uncommon to witness deer feeding on the wild berries and other underbrush during the late afternoon to evening hours. Recommended because: If you are a mountain biker looking for a challenge, a thrill, and a chance to consume the wonder of the great outdoors, this is the best bet in town. You can hone up on your climbing, plunge down exciting descents, and bunny hop rocks and logs all at one stop. Plus, it is within biking distance from campus. Directions: To reach the future (how far in the future is presently
unclear) site of Centennial Park in Altoona from campus take East Clairemont
to Hastings Way (Hwy 53). Follow Hastings Way northbound until you reach
Highland Avenue. Take a right and follow Highland Avenue. It will quickly
turn into Spooner Drive. Follow Spooner Drive for a half mile, and you
will see a sign on your right displaying the words, "Future Sight of Centennial
Park." There is a short gravel path that leads to a small gravel lot.Trails
can be found cascading into the trees from the perimeter of the gravel.
