  Paths of Most Resistance:

Three Secret Mountain Bike Trails

While there are some exhilarating, yet disappointingly brief trails in the Putnam Park area on the UW-Eau Claire campus, there doesn't seem to be enough off road action to sate the appetites of avid mountain bikers. The three areas mentioned here are unique in terms of landscape, difficulty, scenic quality, and all around exhilaration.
The leisurely off road ride.

Where: Lake Wissota State Park.

Difficulty: This trail provides mostly flat surfaces for the rider who wants to take a nice, quiet ride through the woods. Don't pack up and go home if you left your safety gear in the closet, but a helmet is always a good idea. Even a novice rider can successfully cruise through the miles of trails at this state park.

Aesthetic Quality : The park is nestled around the Northeast shore of beautiful Lake Wissota in Chippewa County. Between late afternoon and dusk are the perfect hours to cruise these trails, mainly because of the decrease in hiker traffic, and the increase in deer and fox traffic.

Recommended because: It offers all of the beauty of the outdoors, with the luxury of correlatingthe pace of your ride to the mood you are in. If you want to get a good workout, the surface is flat and solid enough to pump those legs and get in some important cardiovascular exercise.

Directions: From campus go east on Clairemont until you reach Hastings Way (Highway 53).Take Highway 53 North to the Highway 29 East exit. The Lake Wissota exit (County X) will be the first exit that you see.Take a left on County X and follow it until it runs into County K. Take a left on K and you will hit Lake Wissota State Park shortly. Parking is plentiful, and you can access the trail from almost anywhere.
