Each semester, SSS plans workshops and social gatherings for students to get to know one another better and further develop their personal and professional skills.

Spring 2024 Events

  • Part-Time Job Fair 
    • Facilitator: Career and Academic Services
    • 40+ on and off-campus employers will be hiring students from all majors, recruiting amongst campus student organizations. View employers registered to attend. On-campus employers are encouraged to attend and hire student employees, register for free.

  • Waffle Workshop Wednesday (WWW): Practical Tips for Scholarships 
    • Facilitators: Faith Pawelski, SSS and Jonathan Rylander, Center for Writing Excellence.
    • Many scholarships are available to students at UW-Eau Claire, but how do you locate them and write applications that get results? Gain tips that could help you acquire additional funds for your education.

  • Dessert Day

    • Welcome back! The SSS staff invites all program participants to stop by the SSS office to relax, reconnect, and have some treats.

  • Graduate School Planning
    • Facilitator: Rochelle Hoffman
    • Planning to go to graduate school? Learn how to empower yourself to succeed and flourish in graduate school, understand the decision-making process for admission to graduate programs, and learn about the credentials needed in graduate school applications.

    • SSS will provide tickets to this event for any SSS students that would like to attend.

  • Using Online Career-Networking Platforms 
    • Facilitator: Melody Manteufel  
    • Learn how to enhance your use of Handshake and LinkedIn to gain access to employment opportunities. Gain advice on how to use these platforms effectively, including how to develop your profile, reach out to employers, and sign up for job interviews.

  • TRIO Day Celebration 
    • Facilitator:  SSS Staff 
    • National TRIO Day is a celebration of the programs funded through the U.S. Department of Education to promote the academic achievement of eligible students. The programs serve students whose parents do not have a college degree, students from families with limited income, and students with disabilities. Stay tuned for emails about this year’s TRIO activities.

  • WWW: FAFSA Workshops 
    • Facilitator:  SSS Staff 
    • Do you have questions on how to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)? The FAFSA is the form a student needs to complete to apply for financial aid, such as grants and loans. Plan to attend a SSS FAFSA event to receive free information and assistance completing the FAFSA.

  • All Majors Fair 
    • Facilitator: Career and Academic Services
    • 120+ employers will be hiring students from all majors for professional jobs and internships. View employers registered to attend. Tours of this fair are available for all interested students at 10am, 11am, 12pm and 1pm, meeting in Woodland Theatre. Led by employer partners, tours help students understand what a career fair is, learn to navigate the event, and discover resources to help them prepare. No advanced registration is needed.

  • Funding Graduate School
    • Facilitator: Rochelle Hoffman
    • Learn about financial resources for graduate school and the importance of planning, organization, and time management, as related to funding your graduate school education.

  • Meet Up For Midterms
    • Facilitator: SSS Staff
    • Take a break during mid-terms to relax and have some treats. The SSS staff invites all program participants to stop by the SSS office for refreshments during midterm week.

  • Researching Careers Workshop 
    • Facilitator:  Laken Jones, SSS Career Development Coordinator 
    • Uncertain about your major or career direction? Learn about user-friendly resources that can help you identify careers that are consistent with your interests, skills, and values.

  • WWW: Student-Faculty Research Workshop
    • Facilitator: Erica Benson, Office of Research and Sponsored Programs and SSS Students.
    • Working with faculty on undergraduate research could be a highlight of your college experience. Learn more about student-faculty research opportunities, benefits of the experience, and how to get started. Hear from SSS students about their research experience.

  • WWW: Service-Learning 
    • Facilitator: SSS Staff 
    • UW-Eau Claire’s Service-Learning requirement is a great way to give back to the community while exploring interests and building skills. Learn how to get started making the most of this opportunity.

  • High Impact Practices & Internships
    • Facilitator: Laken Jones
    • All students are strongly advised to have at least one professional internship during college. This session will offer practical advice on how you can locate internships now that will give you a career edge. We will also discuss research opportunities that are available on campus.
      • Tuesday, April 23rd, 1-1:50 pm, Schneider 319
  • Resume Review 
    • Facilitator: SSS Staff
    • Learn how to present your skills and experiences in a way that will enhance your chances of being called for an interview. You will learn strategies for writing effective resumes and cover letters and how to adapt these materials for different positions and purposes. 
      • Wednesday, April 23rd, 3:30– 5 pm, Centennial 1916
  • SSS Recognition Celebration 
    • Facilitator: SSS Staff 
    • SSS will honor program participants graduating in May, those with a high GPA, those who have served as mentors or Advisory Board members during the academic year, and Friends of TRIO.
      • Thursday, May 2nd, 4-5:30pm Ojibwe, Davies
  • Fuel Up for Finals 
    • Facilitator: SSS Staff
    • Take a break during finals to relax and have some treats. The SSS staff invites all program participants to stop by the SSS office for refreshments on the first day of final exams.
