National Service Agency and Nonprofits Launch Challenge, Urge Student Service in Schools and Communities
Learn More!
All candidates for the baccalaureate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire must satisfactorily complete 30 or more clock-hours of approved service-learning activity. This requirement is intended to provide students with an opportunity to serve their community, apply knowledge gained in the classroom and enhance their critical thinking skills.
Service-Learning is a method that promotes student learning and development through participation in thoughtfully organized service experiences. These experiences are defined, planned, implemented, and coordinated collaboratively by students, the university, and the community. They offer students opportunities to apply their education in service to the community, which enhances their appreciation, understanding, and respect for others. At the UW-Eau Claire, service-learning activities may be incorporated into courses or they may be stand-alone co- or extra-curricular projects.
The Center for Service-Learning assists students, faculty/staff members and community project supervisors with designing and undertaking meaningful projects that afford both rich experiences for UW-Eau Claire students and substantial benefits for the community. This web site provides information about the graduation requirement and procedures for completing it, service-learning opportunities provided by community partners, Center services, and useful resources to enhance the service-learning experience.
This website is updated at least once per week. Check back often for new service-learning opportunity postings.
The Guidebook section is the on-line version of the Center's comprehensive brochure. Hard-copies of the brochure are available at the Center for Service-Learning (HSS 205) and near the Activities and Programs office, Davies Center 133.
The Find a Project section takes you to a listing of all service-learning opportunities submitted by community partners to the Center for Service-Learning. Students are not limited to these; in fact, many students formulate their own projects.
The Resources page contains a wide variety of materials that may be useful to students, faculty/staff members and community partners in devising meaningful service-learning activities.
The Center welcomes questions and comments. Please contact us!
