• Completed the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Qualifying Seminar (October 20-22, 2008) with Dr. Mitchell R. Hammer at the Humphrey Institute Conference Center in Minneapolis, MN.

• Attended two professional development programs in Portland, Oregon at the Summer Institute for Intercultural Communication (July 9-12, 2008):(1)Intercultural Management Consulting, taught by David Eaton, Aperian Global and Dr. Ernest Gundling, UC Berkeley & Aperian Global and (2) China: A Critical-Culture Briefing, taught by Dr. George Renwick, Renwick & Associates, AZ

• Attended "Doing Business in China" Workshop, UW-Eau Claire Continuing Education. December 2006.

• Selected as one of 25 educators to attend the International Radio and Television Society Foundation Seminar, "Diversity in Media," (November 14-15, 2005). New York. 

• Selected as one of six faculty members (nationally) to receive a $2,500 grant and four-week internship at KPAX-TV in Missoula, MT, where I interned for four weeks in sales, production, news, and research (Summer 2000).  The grant, which was awarded by the National Association of Television Program Executives (NATPE), included funding to attend the NATPE convention in Las Vegas, January 2001. (Spring 2001).

• Selected as one of 17 educators to attend the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Faculty Seminar in Burbank, California.  (November 10-15, 1998)

• Selected as one of the 75 educators to attend the International Radio and Television Society Foundation Faculty/Industry Seminar, The Impact of Media on Children. New York, NY (February 18-22, 1998). 

• Participant, Taking Charge of Your Television: A Critical Viewing Workshop for Parents, Teachers and Community Leaders.  Sponsored by Time Warner Cable in partnership with area school district PTA’s and Eau Claire Coalition for Youth.  Ramada Inn Conference Center, Eau Claire, WI.  (June 3, 1997). 

• Attended 21st University of Wisconsin System Women’s Studies Consortium Conference: Finding Common Ground. UW-Superior. October 4-5, 1996.  Incorporating Wisconsin Indian Cultures & History into the Curriculum.  

• Attended  Conference, Voices of China:  Ambiguities and contradictions in China reporting and scholarship sponsored by the China Times Center of the University of Minnesota.  Course #91-10.  (October 4-6, 1991).

• Attended Symposium, Power/freedom: Politics, social life, and the arts in modern Greece, sponsored by the Modern Greek Studies Association, University of Minnesota. (October 19-22, 1989).

• Attended Conference, Voices of China:  The Bejing Massacre/Politics and journalism in China today. (October 6-8, 1989).
