"Sky Dancer" was selected as a Children's Book of the Year by the Child Study Children's Book Committee of Bank Street College. "Circus of the Wolves" was named a Distinguished Book by the International Reading Association, among other awards. His most recent work, "Farm Crossings: The Adventures of Addie and Zachary." Jack Bushnell's article, "Transsexing Technological Man: (Re)Writing the Comic Book Male/Scientist in 'Swamp Thing,'" was published in the February 2000 issue of the refereed journal Popular Culture Review. Fall 1999Erna Kelly's essay, "A Matter of Focus: Men in the Margins of Alice Walker's Fiction," was published in Critical Essays on Alice Walker. Ed. Ikenna Dieke. Greenwood Press, which came out in the fall of 1999. William H. Phillips published Writing Short Scripts, 2nd. ed. from Syracuse University Press, 1999. Spring 1999Two poems by Max Garland, "The Loon" and "The Day Lilies," will appear in the next issue of Ploughshares. Garland's short story "Friendship 7" will appear in the next issue of Five Points. August Rubrecht's article "Why Have We Got 'Have Got'?" appeared in the winter issue of Verbatim: The Language Quarterly. Asha Sen's revie February 9, 2008 dia in the Modern British Novel" was published in Modern Fiction Studies Winter 1998. Bruce Taylor's poem "Those Drinking Days" appears in the current edition of the online poetry magazine The Red Booth Review http://wtp62.com/rbrtwo9.html. His poems "Sunday Morning," "Next Door: Spring," "Wednesday: The Hole," "Saturday: Mt. Idle" and "Another Year: The Birds" have recently appeared in the Web journal Spark 28, Orange Street Press. Recently published "The Belly and Its Members" in Savoy; "Mother" in Tintern Abby; "Window Tree" in Cross Connect; and "Middle-aged Man, Walking" in Passager. Fall 1998Karen Loeb has recently published a story in New Works Review called "A Pineapple Day." Max Garland is taking some of the extra time he has, due to the Bush Fellowship, to promote his new book Apparition.
