| Return to Meeting Notes Home | 2:00 PM Minutes – STD/MRC meeting Present: Gloria, Dan, Blake, Traci, Amanda, Dana, Ann General Sigma Tau Delta meetings will be held on Thursdays at 6:00 PM in the Penthouse, Hibbard Hall. The dates for this semester are as follows: Kudos to Amanda and Dan for cleaning up HH 410 by sorting all of the books and carting them in preparation for B.O.B. Many thanks to both of them! Discussed B.O.B. to be held Wednesday, September 13 from 11 AM – 2 PM. Dan will sit at the booth for the entire time, Amanda from 11-12 and Blake and Ann from 1-2. Dan will also buy candy to hand out along with the books. Dan suggested having stickers made for B.O.B. using the conference button image. Amanda will look into finding a place to have them printed. Amanda will get a copy of the Rhetoric: My Anti-Drug t-shirt image to Dan for posting on the English Fest website. Posters for the conference are to be posted around campus, especially on bulletin boards in classrooms. Blake will cover all HH English classrooms. Amanda will have twenty-six posters stamped for hanging at a cost of $3.00. Two students are needed for the Curriculum Committee. Ann volunteered. Discussed conference submissions. Technical deadline for submitting papers is September 15, although due to several requests, it was decided to accept an abstract and rough draft, with the final copy due October 1. Dan left envelopes in a crate in the English department office for submissions and registrations that come in while he and Gloria are in Pittsburgh. Traci will ask for brochures from the Eau Claire Tourist Information Center to have available for conference attendees. Dana and Dan discussed a press release for The Flip Side. Also needed for Volume One, the Spectator and the Leader Telegram. Dan has been talking to classes about Sigma Tau and the conference, and will tentatively speak to Traci’s kids, schedule permitting. We need to visit other classes as well within the next week or so. Discussed Alumni attendance at conference. Blake will call the Alumni office and try to get names and addresses of STD alumni. Dana will write up an invitation, using the STD logo from www.english.org Events: The public library book sale will be held November 17-18. The Chippewa Valley Children’s Writing Contest will be held on October 22. We need to have flyers to Arlene Radtke before then. Sigma Tau’s Children’s Book Fest and possible conflicting events (i.e. NOTA) were briefly discussed and tabled until the September 14th officer’s meeting. Discussed a possible skit for the National Conference next spring. Dan to star. |
