Minutes – STD Officer’s Meeting

Present: Gloria, Dan, Grant, Dana, Megan, Amanda, Ann

Midwest Regional Conference discussion:

Gloria, our tenacious, ever-alert-to-the-possibilities advisor, received $200.00 from the National Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta to be used as an honorarium for August Rubrecht, our Regional Conference Friday night entertainment. The receipt of this money coincided with Dan’s receipt of the contract from Dr. Rubrecht when he and Gloria returned from their meetings in Pittsburgh last week.

Gloria and Dan have received several submissions for the conference; Dan suggested extending the deadline to either September 24th or 27th, due to requests for extra time from some of the registrants.

We need to start reading submissions tomorrow (9/15):
Dan will set up folders for readers in the English Dept. office
one reader for each submission
comment on sticky note and put read submission into “read” folder
submissions must be ten pages or less with an abstract included

Dana and Dan will meet Wednesday, 9/20 at 2:00 PM in Kate Gill to work on the program for the conference. The conference is free to UW-EC students; $10.00 for those who wish to attend Friday night’s banquet and entertainment.

Gloria reported that the president, executive director and regional director of Sigma Tau Delta will all be attending the conference, along with Peter Scholes, president of the board of directors.

A brief recap of the Pittsburgh meetings led to a discussion of the Spring National Conference, also to be held in Pittsburgh.
Need to become national members to attend spring convention.
Students have the opportunity to submit a critical paper, creative work or creative non-fiction work, then fill out a short grant application requesting funding for transportation, hotel and per diem costs for the convention.
One student who attends the board meeting will earn $200.00 which will be used to offset any costs not covered by individual grants.
Hotel reservations should be sent in as early as possible in order to assure that we get the conference hotel (free WiFi in rooms).
