About Our Chapter

Theta Zeta, Eau Claire's Chapter of Sigma Tau Delta, was founded in January, 1956. In addition to the goals of the international society, the Theta Zeta chapter seeks to promote the love of literature and the English language on a local level, to give back to the local and international community, and to have fun with those who share our interest in English language and literature.

Some of our many activities include trips to the International Convention, fundraisers to send books to schools in Russia and Nicaragua, working with local youth and literacy organizations, word game nights, and our annual Children's and Young Adults' Writing Contests for the Chippewa Valley's young aspiring authors.

The Theta Zeta Chapter has received many awards, including the 2006 and 2008 Sigma Tau Delta Outstanding Chapter Award and the 2005 and 2008 UW-Eau Claire Outstanding Student Organization Award. Many of the awards our chapter has received are on display in the Kate Gill Library on the fourth floor of Hibbard Humanities Hall.

We at Theta Zeta raise money to fund our activities primarily by having a book sale each semester and by applying for awards and grants, but additional fundraisers vary. In the past we have hosted a benefit concert to help fund our Books Over Borders campaign, and for the past two years, we have gone Trick or Treating for books and donations for local youth organizations.

For information about joining Theta Zeta, check the How To Join page or drop by for one of our meetings. We meet Thursdays at 5p.m. in the Kate Gill Library on the fourth floor of Hibbard; you can find a schedule of events on the Calendar page. Guests are always welcome!
