Programming is set each semester for the WAGE Center based on needs assessed through the university of current issues that are related to our mission statement. For a current calendar of events, please refer to the calendar page.
Feel free to make suggestions! We will provide additional programming upon request.
All WAGE Center presentations include a brief PowerPoint presentation of WAGE, our mission, services and contact information.
The presentations we offer include:
Gendered Language: This presentation will run through some of the general gendered language that society uses, using every day life examples to demonstrate the ways in which it is used. There will also be a discussion on how we can change or work to eliminate these gendered words, beginning with being aware of their existence.
Gender and Occupations: This presentation includes an activity that allows the class to discuss how gender roles are placed on specific occupations – specifically analyzing two characters from medical school. The presentation includes a discussion on how society makes assumptions about people’s personalities, abilities, and careers based on gender, and then will conclude with a brainstorming session on how students can help to change or eliminate these stereotypes.
We are also willing to create programming by request. In the past, WAGE has done programming on the following requested topics:
• Men and Gender
• Equal Pay
• Information session on Domestic Violence
• Volunteer opportunities on campus and in the community related to gender
• Advocacy and creating change
• Body Image
If you have other requests for programming, please do not hesitate to contact the WAGE Center.
